Morgan Gilmour

Post-doctoral Fellow

Dr Morgan Gilmour recently completed her PhD at the University of California where she was fortunate to study seabirds on (mostly) tropical islands, including Palmyra Atoll in the remote Pacific. Morgan began her exciting Post-doctoral Fellowship at the Institute for Marine & Antarctic Studies in Tasmania in July 2019 after winning a US-AU Scholarship. However, she first visited Tasmania in 2015 after winning a prestigious EAPSI Scholarship.

During her stay, she and Dr Lavers led a research project on the seabirds of Breaksea Island (Western Australia), which became a chapter of her PhD thesis. Morgan’s extensive knowledge of chemical pollutants will now be applied to a new project on balloon-based debris, supported (in part) by a Waste Reduction Grant from Hobart City Council and the Zoos Victoria “Bubbles Not Balloons Campaign”.
