🎉TWO new students join Adrift Lab🎉

A big #AdriftLab welcome two new students, our team is thrilled to have you join us – whoop whoop!!

- Richard Farr is doing his MSc in Remote Sensing at RMIT University (Primary Supervisor: Dr Mariela Soto-Berelov). While Richard is Melbourne-based, he’ll be making the trip across to Esperance (Wudjari Country) to join the Tjaltjraak Rangers on a Gnow/Malleefowl survey (i.e., basing through some spectacular, but very densely vegetated bushland!). Richard’s profile photo (on our Student page) includes a little pin that reads ‘Certified Bird Nerd’ so…we feel he’s joined the right lab and will fit in perfectly with the rest of our bird-crazy team! His MSc thesis title hasn’t been finalised yet, but is roughly “Using Remote Sensing and GIS technology to understand Malleefowl distribution”

- In July Amy Steel began her PhD at Curtain University. Amy has been working alongside the Tjaltjraak Rangers and Wudjari Elders for a few years now on climate-focused projects, so she’s prepped and ready for working on Country with such a diverse and environmentally-motivated team. New and exciting is the big focus of her PhD chapters on seabirds, islands, and cultural burning – a unique, challenging, and super exciting combination! (Primary Supervisor: Professor Tod Jones).
